Whether selecting a school, a professional, or a laboratory... consider "Are they skilled & legitimate?" Accreditation replies to that question:
Since the results of the analysis you receive from
a laboratory are used to determine the magnitude or presence of a problem in the workplace or environment, it is vital that the lab analyzing the samples be proficient in producing high-quality data.
A laboratory earning accreditation is one that has demonstrated that it can produce accurate high-quality results on a consistent basis. Without accreditation, it is unclear what standards and quality systems are actually
employed by the laboratory. Accreditation additionally assures an objective outside safeguard because the lab has to participate in PAT (Proficiency Analytical Testing) quality control programs OR external programs (round robins) with strict statistical limits.
X-zam® Labs follows the Laboratory Quality Assurance Program (LQAP)
the highest possible model for laboratories. A protocol such as this is so important, especially when a lab's scope is analyzing for hazardous breathing agents.
X-zam® Lab's scope includes Copressed Breathing Air, Medical/Pharmaceutical Air & Gas, and Compressed Air for Manufacturing. Additionally, a legitimate laboratory would comply with ISO 17025* as well as the LQAP Policy Models.
Industry/specific standards like those of the CSA**, NFPA***, and OSHA further define the field of testing and methodology ... facilitated by accreditation.
By Maintaining reliability of data and lab results, accreditation provides the ultimate protection for companies, their workers, and their consumers. A definitive line of defense for any outcome to be determined in a court of law.

- ▾How Does A Lab Get Accredited?
This is a rigorous 4-step process that will take up to 1 year to complete:
- ADMINISTRATIVE REVIEW:
Application completed and accepted.
- TECHNICAL REVIEW:
Site assessor then reviews technical aspects.
- SITE VISIT:
Site assessor physically visits the laboratory, 2-4 days.
- FINAL REVIEW:
Application goes to a Technical Advisory Panel (TAP) for final review.
This panel is comprised of 12-22 experts who advise the Analytical Accreditation Board (AAB).
After addressing any concerns of the site assessor or TAP, the laboratory will then go to the AAB to
determine acceptance. Labs receiving approval are accredited for a 2-year period, after which they must
apply for re-accreditation.
- ▾What Are The Accredited Criteria?
The labs workforce plays a key role in obtaining accreditation. X-zam® must employ a sufficient number of trained technical personnel to complete the workload. Includes experienced managerial/technical/QA staff.
Accreditation requires good QA and QC programs be in place for all laboratory operations. Facilities and equipment are tightly scrutinized to assure adequacy for applications. Participate in a proficiency-testing program.
Naturally, a big part of any lab operation is simply having the right procedures in place. Accreditation mandates record maintenance and documentation procedures as well as approved laboratory methods and standard operating procedures (SOP's).
Superior quality and dependability go hand-in-hand with a laboratory that can demonstrate a long-term history of service and accreditation. A good question for any prospective laboratory is not just, "Are you accredited?" but, "How long have you been accredited?" A select few labs, including X-Zam® Laboratories, have consistently maintained accreditation more than 2 ½ decades!
- CUSTOMER SERVICE:
Beyond the quality standards of accreditation, a successful laboratory should be adept at understanding and answering specific client needs with speed and efficiency. Superior service includes 24-hour availability, fair pricing, rapid turnaround, thorough reporting and friendly technical assistance highlighted by knowledgeable recommendations for application-specific testing and methodology.
